\nDefine and own strategy across our website and data products
\nEstablish design processes and quality standards for the organization
\nLead design projects end-to-end, from problem definition through delivery
\nDesign responsive user interfaces, graphs, and data visualizations
\nConduct user research to help us understand audience interests and how they use our research
\nCreate design specifications, mock-ups, and prototypes while contributing to our design library
\nManage and mentor another designer and part-time contributors
\n5+ years of experience designing interactive digital products, including leading projects
\nExperience mentoring and managing designers, contractors
\nFluency in interpreting data visualizations and skill in communicating scientific and statistical insights to non-expert audiences
\nA portfolio demonstrating experience in UI/UX and data visualization
\nAbility to work independently, set priorities, and lead design work in a fast-paced environment
\nStrong grasp of typography, color, and layout
\nAbility to work comfortably in Figma, including auto-layout and components
\nExperience establishing or maintaining a design system
\nInterest in Epoch AIâs work
\nFamiliarity with Epoch AIâs research or related topics
\nExperience with scientific communication
\nExperience in illustration, branding
\nFamiliarity with front-end development, HTML + CSS + JS
\nExperience with Python libraries like Matplotlib/Plotly or other data visualization programming tools
\nGood written communication skills
\nAnnual salary between $120,000â$200,000 USD, depending on location and experience.
\nSalaries are not restricted to USD, and contracts and payments are usually in local currencies. Conversions are based on one-year average exchange rates.

\nWhile we welcome applicants from all time zones, we prefer candidates who overlap with UTCâ4/5 (Eastern Time). We also prefer candidates who can travel: we hold three retreats per year, during which we record podcast episodes and other communication efforts.
